Pearson Fuels, Silvas Oil Team Up for Odyssey Day on October 15 in Ventura with Free E85 Ethanol

VENTURA, CA — October 15, 2010 — Pearson Fuels and Silvas Oil will celebrate National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Odyssey Day by offering ethanol (E85) alternative fuel to all area E-85 compatible flexible fuel vehicles for free. By partnering with the Department of Energy to host a National AFV Day Odyssey event, everyone is being reminded that there are real alternatives to oil dependence for this country and it is being demonstrated every day at the Silvas Oil Ventura location where they dispense Pearson’s brand of E85. Their Ventura location is located at 6417 Ventura Blvd., Ventura, CA 93003.

Pearson Fuels, which is celebrating its seventh anniversary as the world’s first Alternative Fuel station, has announced the fuel give away will occur from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15.

Pearson’s General Manager, Mike Lewis said, “We know there are literally thousands of flexible fuel vehicle owners in the Ventura/Oxnard area that have been burning imported oil in their vehicles for years and now a domestically produced, renewable and cleaner burning fuel is available right down the street. We are offering this thank you to our regular customers to come by and enjoy free E85 but just as importantly we want to take away every excuse a person has to not give this fuel a try. If your gas cap is yellow or your gas door says UNLEADED AND E85 FUEL ONLY, you can use this fuel. The manufacturer of your car made it to run on E85, so why burn gasoline?” He went on to remind everyone that this fuel giveaway is for E85 compatible of flex-fuel vehicles only and this fuel is not for straight gasoline cars. Finally absolutely no containers are allowed to be fueled at this event.

The station is owned and operated by Silvas Oil Co., which for 30 years has specialized in commercial fleet fueling stations, and has now opened its first station open to the general public. The station offers E85 Flex Fuel, a mix of 85 percent corn ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, and B20 Biodiesel, a blend of 80 percent petroleum diesel and 20 percent biodiesel made from soybean oil. It also offers two other types of diesel and three grades of conventional gasoline. The new station is at the site of the former Dixie truck stop, at 6417 Ventura Blvd., Ventura, CA 93003.

General Manager Michelle Silvas-Kirkelie, who works in the company’s Oxnard office said “We are proud to offer Pearson Fuels E85 at our station and glad to be associated with such a progressive company that had the foresight to build the first E85 station on the west coast of the US back in 2003. We are also happy to be a supporter of Odyssey Day, to be part of our country’s energy solution”.

Each year since its inception in 2002, National AFV Day Odyssey has drawn record-breaking crowds and has allowed millions to hear Odyssey’s message. Building upon the success of past events, Odyssey 2010 is positioned to break all records, with a total of 103 sites being conducted nationwide. In 2008, with 90 participating sites in 2 countries, the event surpassed all expectations attracting nearly 200,000 attendees.

Pearson Fuels opened in 2003 as the world’s first Alternative Fuel Station. From day one the station offered an amazing number of firsts in what most people thought was the mature retail fueling industry. Specializing in bringing alternative fuels to the public, Pearson brought the first Ethanol station to the state of California, the first Biodiesel station to San Diego and the county’s first dual pressure CNG station. Pearson featured San Diego’s largest Electric Vehicle charging facility, the county’s first Propane Vehicle Fueling Station and was the first independent station in San Diego to offer Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel. Three grades of gasoline rounded the offering to a total of 10 different vehicle fuels. This was the first time a facility like this had ever been built.

The original concept for Pearson Fuels grew out of the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program. The Clean Cities Program is a government-industry partnership designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector by advancing the use of alternative fuels and vehicles, idol reduction technologies, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel blends, and fuel economy measures. The Clean Cities Program was established in 1993 with its first designated coalition located in Atlanta, GA.
